Following the setback I described in the last Check-In, I’ve worked really hard trying to get myself back on track.
I think I’m getting back into the groove at work schedule-wise, but of course, the company has just announced another layoff week in mid-February. At least I’ll have another week of being able to put in extra time on my first draft if I need it.
Otherwise, I’ve been doing ok. I’m still in a bit of a winter-funk, but it’s not as bad as it was over the weekend.
Here’s the Check-In Breakdown…
Goal #1 – Finish my First Draft
I’ve managed to write another 3000 words since the last check-in, which is right on track for my 1000 words per day goal.
I’m doing my best to keep that momentum going, and still deal with all of my “real life” responsibilities – the kitchen cabinet doors are coming along, I did some maintenance on the vehicles, and got out to see my mom in the county.
Since this Round began, I’ve written about 26,800 words.
Goal #2 – Write At Least Three Articles/Essays
Again, I haven’t started on this one yet, because I’m saving this one for when I’m done the first draft and want to take a break from it.
Goal #3 – Start Editing
I still haven’t started on this one, either. I won’t edit until the draft is done. I’m a horrible self-editor, so I’m really trying to not go back and edit while I write. I’m saving all of the editing for when the draft is done.
Goal #4 – Read at least Two Books
Still making progress with this one. I’m still reading Forever And A Day, by Anthony Horowitz, and am on page 164 of 245. I’m really enjoying it. I think I may pick up his Sherlock Holmes novels as well, as I’m a fan of those stories and would like to see how he writes for that character.
Ok, that’s my Check-In. Hope you’re all doing well with yours.

A layoff week sounds like a blessing and a curse all in one… Maybe you can get yourself ahead on the cabinets and your story that week at least.
