ROW80, Round 2 Check-In #19 – June 5, 2019

Continuing my tradition of posting these a day late… 🙂

Things have been relatively quiet since my last Check-In, (which was also late) so there isn’t too much to report.

I’m still obsessed with the greenhouse build, and though it’s inching towards completion, it’s taking up most of my free time and putting me further behind on other projects. I have to finish it soon, so I can get back to writing consistently and work on other pressing tasks.

As for the writing, I’ve written every day, but not nearly as much as I should. I’ve only written about another 750 words since the last Check-In, which is way below my daily goal.

I’m getting to the half-way point in the climax, and I know exactly how I want to finish the story, it’s just finding (or making) the time to write it all down.

I’ve started editing my next submission for my writer’s group, which is meeting again this coming Tuesday. I’m hoping to have that done by Saturday so that I can submit it in time for everyone to have a chance to read it. If I don’t, I’ll just wait until the next meeting in two and a half weeks to get it critiqued.

My work has, irrationally, scheduled us to work overtime this Saturday, which makes no sense to me because orders are still soft and we’ve got lay off weeks coming up. I think it has something to do with this being the end of the quarter.

Having to work Saturday will cut into my free time, so I probably won’t get as much done as I’d like.

I’ve been working hard on my health goals as well, trying to cut down on my bad habits, working out daily and keeping active. I’m planning on going for my A1C next week, so in a couple of weeks, I may know if my efforts have done any good.

There’s not much else coming up on the horizon before my next Check-In, which I’m thankful for. It’s been really nice to just zen out on my greenhouse build while the weather’s been nice and not worrying about organizing events.

So, on to this Check-In’s Goal Breakdown…

Goal #1 – Get Healthy

I’ve kept up with my regular workouts since the last Check-In, and have even increased the difficulty of the workouts a bit.

I’m staying active working on the greenhouse and watching what I eat.

I’ve cut down on some bad habits, but still have a ways to go in eliminating them altogether.

The break I have between events is also helping to keep my anxiety levels a bit more stable.

Goal #2 – Finish My First Draft

Since my last Check-In, I’ve written about another 750 words, which I’m kind of disappointed about.

It’s not nearly the output I was reaching a few months ago, which is frustrating as I’m anxious to finish this project, but things seem to slow down the closer I get to the end.

I’m going to try to push through and get this draft finished before June is over.

The word count for the draft so far sits at 198,037.

Goal #3 – Write At Least Three Articles/Essays

As before, I’m saving this goal for when I finish the first draft.

At this point, I think it’s better to just plow through and finish this project before I start any others.

Goal #4 – Start Editing

I’ve started editing the next portion of my draft to submit for critique at my writer‘s group next week. I hope to have it done by the weekend, so I can send it to the other members to give them a chance to read it over before the meeting.

Goal #5 – Read at least Two Books

I’m still reading Anthony Horowitz’s Moriarty, a sequel to his Sherlock Holmes tale The House of Silk.

I’m about 149 pages in so far, and though I am enjoying it, I’m getting a bit frustrated with the story. It takes place during the time that Holmes and Moriarty were thought dead, and follows two other characters, a Pinkerton’s agent from the US and a Scotland Yard Inspector, as they search for the members of Moriarty’s criminal gang.

Goal #6 – Read/Watch One Article/Video on Writing Every Day

This one I’ve been a bit lax on…

Well, that’s it for me this Check-In. I’m hoping to get myself back on track for the rest of this Round. Hope you’re all well.
