ROW80, Round 2 Check-In #18 – June 2, 2019

A day late, again

The greenhouse project has apparently taken over my life. It’s become a bit of an obsession.

The weather has been decent enough since the last Check-In that I’ve been spending all of my free time trying to get it finished, which means that I haven’t set much time aside to write.

I’ve still written, but only in fits and starts, and nowhere near the volume that I was hoping to.

I’ve written only about 1500 words since my last Check-In, but the good news is that the greenhouse is inching towards completing, and I’ve managed to do a few other things around the yard that have been put off for too long.

I’m about half-way through the climax of the story, but I really have got to get myself in gear if I want to finish this work any time soon.

I did start editing my next submission for my writer’s group next Tuesday but didn’t get too far before I decided to just relax and watch a horror movie.

I didn’t get up to too much else this week. As I said, the greenhouse has pretty much taken over all of my free time.

On the health front, I’ve stumbled a bit as well. I’ve kind of blown off my workouts lately in order to work on the greenhouse, but I’m going to get back into my regular routine tonight after dinner.

I did go out for a couple of beers with a friend of mine on Friday. We went to a craft brew pub called Chapter Two, which seems to have become our new favourite hangout. I have to admit, I like the name, and the beer’s pretty good too.

Nothing much is on the horizon for the next few days, just work, working on the greenhouse and hopefully writing.

So, on to this Check-In’s Goal Breakdown

Goal #1 – Get Healthy

I’m still trying to get this goal back on track. As I said above, I haven’t kept up with my regular workouts since the last Check-In, but I’m going to be changing that today.
I’m staying active working on the greenhouse and watching what I eat.

I’ve cut down on some bad habits, but still have a ways to go in eliminating them altogether.

The break I have between events is also helping to keep my anxiety levels a bit more stable.

Goal #2 – Finish My First Draft

Since my last Check-In, I’ve written about another 1500 words.

It’s not nearly the output I was reaching a few months ago, which is frustrating as I’m anxious to finish this project, but things seem to slow down the closer I get to the end.

I’m going to try to push through and get this draft finished before June is over.

The word count for the draft so far sits at 196,239.

Goal #3 – Write At Least Three Articles/Essays

As before, I’m saving this goal for when I finish the first draft.

At this point, I think it’s better to just plow through and finish this project before I start any others.

Goal #4 – Start Editing

I’ve started editing the next portion of my draft to submit for critique at my writer‘s group next week. I hope to have it done by the weekend, so I can send it to the other members to give them a chance to read it over before the meeting.

Goal #5 – Read at least Two Books

I’m still reading Anthony Horowitz’s Moriarty, a sequel to his Sherlock Holmes tale The House of Silk.

I’m about 135 pages in so far, and though I am enjoying it, I’m getting a bit frustrated with the story. It takes place during the time that Holmes and Moriarty were thought dead, and follows two other characters, a Pinkerton’s agent from the US and a Scotland Yard Inspector, as they search for the members of Moriarty’s criminal gang.

Goal #6 – Read/Watch One Article/Video on Writing Every Day

This one I’ve been a bit lax on…

Well, that’s it for me this Check-In. I’m hoping to get myself back on track for the rest of this Round. Hope you’re all well.
