As usual, a day late.
My last Check-In post was, you guessed it, late, so there isn’t too much to report between then and now.
I’ve put in as much work as I could into the greenhouse when the weather’s allowed, and it’s finally getting near the point where I can start fixing up the inside to start planting. The roof is almost finished, and there’s only one wall left to seal in. Once all of that’s done I can work on laying out the interior and bringing in dirt and plants.
I will still have to do some work pretty-ing up the exterior, but I can take my time on that. I’m hoping to be able to start using it after this coming weekend.
On Tuesday, I attended the writer’s critiquing group I belong to. I didn’t submit anything this time out, as I’d like to put in some more work polishing my next submission a bit. I am learning a lot from the group, even by just listening to the comments and suggestions the group offers on other people’s submissions. I think it’s helping me to apply those suggestions and corrections to my own work.
I’m hoping to submit for the next meeting in two weeks.
I don’t have any events I have to organize for the next couple of weeks, and nothing else pressing is on the horizon for a little while, which is nice. I can spend the next couple of weeks working on projects around the house that have been languishing while I’ve been occupied with my obsessive greenhouse building.
As far as the writing goes, it’s going slowly, but still moving along. I figure I’m about a quarter of the way through the climax at this point. I’m not sure when I’ll have it finished, but the tiny light at the end of the tunnel does seem a bit brighter lately.
I’m going to try to pick up the pace on my writing output for the next couple of weeks, since I don’t have any events to worry about, though if the weather continues to work for me, I may be tempted to keep working on outdoor projects rather than sitting at my desk in my office.
So, on to this Check-In’s Goal Breakdown…
Goal #1 – Get Healthy
I’m still working really hard to recover from my high blood-sugar incident a few weeks ago.
I’m staying active working on the greenhouse and doing my regular workouts and watching what I eat.
I’ve cut down on some bad habits, but still have a ways to go in eliminating them altogether.
The break I have between events is also helping to keep my anxiety levels a bit more stable.
Goal #2 – Finish My First Draft
Since my last Check-In, I’ve written about another 2500 words.
It’s not nearly the output I was reaching a few months ago, which is frustrating as I’m anxious to finish this project, but things seem to slow down the closer I get to the end.
I’m going to try to push through and get this draft finished before June is over.
The word count for the draft so far sits at 194,789.
Goal #3 – Write At Least Three Articles/Essays
As before, I’m saving this goal for when I finish the first draft.
At this point, I think it’s better to just plow through and finish this project before I start any others.
Goal #4 – Start Editing
I haven’t done any more editing on the draft since I submitted it for critique at my writing group. I’m going to try and get back to my commitment not to edit it anymore until the draft is finished unless I decide to submit another piece for critique.
If I do decide to submit another piece for critique at my writing group, though, I will have to do some editing to polish up my submission.
Goal #5 – Read at least Two Books
I’m still reading Anthony Horowitz’s Moriarty, a sequel to his Sherlock Holmes tale The House of Silk, though I haven’t read much more of it since my last Check-In.
I’m about 128 pages in so far, and I am really enjoying it.
Goal #6 – Read/Watch One Article/Video on Writing Every Day
This one I’ve been pretty lax on. I’ve only managed to watch one writing-related vlog post since my last Check-In…
How to Show vs. Tell in Your Writing – Meg LaTorre
Well, that’s it for me this Check-In. I’m hoping to get myself back on track for the rest of this Round. Hope you’re all well.
