ROW80 – Round 2 – April 1, 2019

So, extra late this time.

I didn’t finish the last Round as well as I had hoped. I only managed to achieve One of the Four goals I set out, and that was the easiest of the four to accomplish. I’m hoping I do better this Round.

For this Round, I’m adding in a couple of new goals.

Goals List –

Goal #1 – Get Healthy

I’ve had a little trouble with my health lately, so I’ve decided my primary goal this Round will be to improve and maintain my health.

It’s become apparent that I do have to concentrate more on this particular goal, during this Round and after.

Goal #2 – Finish My First Draft

I’ve been working on a First Draft of a novel since NaNoWriMo of this past year. I did manage to hit my NaNo goal of 50,000 words before the end of November, but I’m still working on completing the draft itself.

The word count for this project so far sits at 162,549 words.  I wrote about 59,000 words during NaNo, and 69,500 words during the last Round. The rest were written between the end of NaNo and the beginning of this year’s first Round.

I’m hoping to have this draft finished, and start editing it before the end of this Round.

Goal #3 – Write At Least Three Articles/Essays

I’m hoping to get to this goal in this Round, as I didn’t get around to starting this goal during the last one. I was saving it for when I was finished the first draft. Since that didn’t happen, I had to let this goal go.

Goal #4 – Start Editing

I didn’t get around to starting this goal last Round either, because I was saving it for when I was finished the first draft. Since that didn’t happen, I had to let this goal go as well.

I don’t want to start editing until the draft is done. I’m a horrible self-editor, so I’m really trying to not go back and edit while I write.

Like the previous goal, I’m hoping to achieve this one this Round as well.

Goal #5 – Read at least Two Books

I did manage to reach this goal during Round 1. I had mostly given up reading since I started prepping for NaNo, so I wanted to make an effort to get back to reading regularly.
During the last Round, I managed to finish reading a book I had begun before NaNo, and finished another two books, and made it most of the way through a fourth.

I finished The Ghost Brigades by John Scalzi, Forever And A Day and The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz, and am nearly finished with John Ringo’s A Hymn Before Battle.

I’m going to try and read at least Moriarty by Anthony Horowitz, All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka (Translated by Alexander D. Smith), and finish A Hymn Before Battle by John Ringo.

Goal #6 – Read/Watch One Article/Video on Writing Everyday

Writing is a craft, so I think I should take advantage of all of the resources available, especially online, to try and improve and hone my skills.  I’m going to set aside some time each day to either read an article (or a blog post, or chapter in a helpful book) about the craft of writing or to watch a vlog post from some of the writers I follow on YouTube.

Well, those are the goals that I hope to achieve this Round.  I’m confident that I can manage to do better than the last Round, but time will tell.

I wish all of you the best of luck with your goals this Round.

  1. Hi again, Rob!

You made it through your first round…. some people don’t, so that’s a big win. I think focusing on your health is, too because it’s hard to accomplish other things if you just don’t feel good.

I found it interesting that all of your accomplished or planned reading material was/is by male authors. I’m wondering if a female writer or two in the mix would add some depth to the experience?

All in all, these seem like nice, well-rounded goals. Welcome to Round Two!
