Well, this is it, the end of the Round.
This is the first time I’ve participated in the ROW80 challenge, and one thing I have learned from the experience is that I tend to set my goals may be a bit too high.
I only managed to accomplish one of my goals, arguably the easiest, and two of them I didn’t even get to. The one goal I was certain I’d be able to achieve, finishing the first draft of my novel, I’m still working on.
Though I’ve made some great progress, and even I have to admit my word output over the last 80 days has been great (not NaNo great, but great none-the-less – almost 70,000 words in 80 days isn’t bad), I’m a bit bummed that I didn’t do better.
Well, I guess there’s always the next Round.
I’m hoping to get a handle on my health over the next few months, as still maintain the momentum that I’ve tried carrying through this Round. We’ll have to see how that goes.
I hope all of you who participated in this Round managed to achieve your own goals or at least made significant progress.
So here’s this Check-In’s, and this Round’s last Goal Breakdown…
Goal #1 – Finish My First Draft – Not Achieved
I’ve written another 2000 words since the last check-in, and have tried to get my daily output back on track to 1000 words per day.
Since this Round began, I’ve written about 69,500 words, and the draft is now just over 158,400 words in total.
I’m hoping to have this draft finished, and start editing it before the end of the next Round.
Goal #2 – Write At Least Three Articles/Essays – Not Achieved
I didn’t get around to starting this goal this Round, because I was saving it for when I was finished the first draft. Since that didn’t happen, I had to let this goal go.
I’m hoping to be able to achieve this goal during the next Round.
Goal #3 – Start Editing – Not Achieved
I didn’t get around to starting this goal this Round either, because I was saving it for when I was finished the first draft. Since that didn’t happen, I had to let this goal go as well.
I didn’t want to start editing until the draft was done. I’m a horrible self-editor, so I’m really trying to not go back and edit while I write.
Like the previous goal, I’m hoping to achieve this one next Round as well.
Goal #4 – Read at least Two Books – Accomplished
This goal I did reach. I’m still reading John Ringo’s A Hymn Before Battle, a military sci-fi novel. I only managed to read a little this week, and I’m on page 297 of 363. I’m hoping to finish it soon.
So, that’s it for me this Check-In, and this Round.
I hope you’ve all made significant strides in reaching your goals and look forward to trying to achieve mine next Round.
All the best.
