ROW80 Check-In #19 – March 6, 2019

row80logocopyContinuing on my downward spiral of broken or delayed commitments, this post is again, way late. Apologies.

And again, I’ve continued to be very lax in reading and responding to other’s blog posts, which, once again, I apologize for.

Morpheus, it seems, is refusing to visit me as often as I require. I’m very low on his list of priorities, it seems and my sleeping schedule continues to be all over the map.

I just haven’t been able to get back into the groove of getting semi-regular sleep since my layoff a couple of weeks ago, and it’s really taking its toll. I’ve been very moody and cranky lately, and really feel horrible about taking that out on those around me.

It’s also, as I’ve mentioned, caused me to blow off much of my responsibilities lately, which really sucks. I hate getting behind on projects, but it seems there’s very little I can do lately to keep myself motivated.

Again, the last few days my writing output has been less consistent than I‘d like. While I did hit my 1000 words per day goal more often than not, there were a few days where I fell short of that goal.

Other than that, there’s not too much to report. I’m still trying to plug away at all of my objectives, with mixed results.

The latest set of kitchen cabinet doors are nearing completion, and I’m hoping to get those installed by the end of the weekend and move on to the lower cabinets and drawers.

I’m trying not to dwell on the writing, other than just doing it. I don’t want to get too deep into the habit of over-thinking things and am just trying to write and not dwell on the progress.

So here’s this Check-In’s Goal Breakdown…

Goal #1 – Finish My First Draft

I’ve written another 2700 words since the last check-in.

Since this Round began, I’ve written about 63,800 words, and the draft is now just over 153,100 words in total.

Goal #2 – Write At Least Three Articles/Essays

Still haven’t gotten around to this one yet, because I’m saving this one for when I’m done the first draft and want to take a break from it. Though I am considering taking some time off from the first draft to work on at least one small writing project, just for a change of pace.

Goal #3 – Start Editing

I still haven’t started on this one, either. I won’t edit until the draft is done. I’m a horrible self-editor, so I’m really trying to not go back and edit while I write. I’m saving all of the editing for when the draft is done.

Goal #4 – Read at least Two Books – Accomplished

I’m still reading John Ringo’s A Hymn Before Battle, a military sci-fi novel. I’m on page 216 of 363. It’s really taking a long time for the action to heat up, but I’m sticking with it.

So, that’s it for me this Check-In

Hope all is well with you.

  1. A big change in schedule, like a layoff, can mess with the mind. I can only suggest that you “work”. If you can’t go to your office, go to a library or a cafe during those hours that you would be at the job and “work”. Maybe start one of those articles you’ve been putting off… Make that a “job” project. Or offer to do a beta read for someone (if you don’t want to edit your own work too early in the process, get practice by critiquing or reading for style/content).

Basically… recreate the patterns that were disrupted as well as you can. They may not bring a paycheck, but they may provide different benefits. One of those might be better sleep….
