Manic/Panic – February 25, 2019

Late again.

It’s been a very rough week.

I’m not sure if it’s the time of year or the unexpected, week-long layoff from work, but I’ve really been “off” lately.

I’ve been incredibly sleep deprived, getting only about 4 hours of sleep at a stretch, and up early no matter what time I went to bed, and that’s been really messing with me. I work 3rd shift, and the sudden schedule shift this week did a number on me.

For some reason, I got into a really manic mood, and spent most of my time cleaning and re-organizing my workshop. I built an outfeed table and a router extension for my table-saw, built a drill press table, several clamps, a vice, a swing arm for my shop monitor, and just generally lived in my workshop all week.

And for the first time since late September, I went more than a day without writing anything.

That really got me down, but for some reason, I just couldn’t get motivated to sit down and put words on the screen. Given that I had time off, I should have taken the opportunity to try and get further along in my first draft, but no matter what, I just couldn’t do it.

I’m not sure if it’s just because I’m burnt out and needed a break, or if it’s the sleep deprivation or a combination of both, but as I said, it hasn’t been a good week, especially for writing.

I went back to work last night, and I did manage to get in my 1000 words for today, so here’s hoping that a return to a more normal schedule for me will get me back on an even keel.

Otherwise, I have a really awesome shop now, and I think that I’m finally on the other side of “Carmageddon”, as most of the work on all three of my vehicles have been finished.

Hopefully, I’ll have some better news to post on the next blog post.

I’ve only written another 4200 words since last week, and as I said, I blew off several days of writing. I’m hoping to get back to my consistent 1000 words per day output now that I’m back to work.

Well, that’s it for me this week. I’m hoping to get back to my routine soon, and hopefully, this next week will go better.

But, for better or worse, I’m still plowing through with this project, despite this latest stumble. I hope that someday, I’ll be finished with this draft and can move on to the next step.
