You Can Pick Your Friends, but Not Your Family – February 11, 2019

Well, it seems I‘m having a hard time making these posts on time, so here‘s another late one 🙂

It’s been a rough few days.
The week started out well, though I was and still am battling a stubborn head cold. I managed to keep up with my writing goals for the most part, got to spend some time with good friends, and did a little work in my workshop.
I’m still trying to fix the bad finish on the set of kitchen cabinet doors that were screwed up by the frigid weather we had a couple of weeks ago, but I’ve managed to sand them back down and am trying to re-stain them to get the colour right. Hopefully, those will be done by the weekend and I can move on to the next set.
Unfortunately, it turns out that I’m looking at some major repairs to my main vehicle, which has got me stressing some. It’s likely to cost a bit, which though manageable, is an unexpected expense I now have to budget in.
Yesterday was my mom’s 75th birthday, so we went out to the county to spend the day with her and celebrate. Unfortunately, one of my other relatives started some drama that pretty much ruined the occasion, so we’re all still dealing with that. It’s unfortunate that one selfish person can mar such a special occasion. As the saying goes, you can pick your friends, but not your family.
As far as the writing is going, I’ve decided to make a real effort to stop worrying about how long the first draft is getting, and just keep with it until it’s done. If I have to cut away half of it during editing, so be it. I’ve come this far, so I can’t let a relatively small stumbling block like the length of the work get me down.
On the bright side, I got some parts in that I ordered for my pinball machine, so I’m planning on spending some time working on that project during my upcoming layoff week.
I also filled another writing notebook at work, so time to go grab a new one at the dollar store 🙂
I’ve written about another 7000 words since the last check-in, trying to keep up with my 1000 words per day goal. The draft is now just over 134,100 words in total, but as I said, I’m not going to worry about that right now.
Well, that will be it for this update. Yes, I’m still writing, in case you were wondering 😉
Novel Word Count – 134,121
