Sorry, this post is a day late, but we got in from Columbus, Ohio pretty late yesterday, and I had to work last night, so I just couldn’t get myself motivated to make this post until today.
We spent the weekend visiting friends in Columbus and had a great time, but needless to say, I didn’t manage to get much writing done while we were gone.
I did manage to do some writing before we left, and then again today, so I haven’t been slacking off entirely, but it was good to get away and take a break from writing for a weekend, especially after the mood I’ve been in lately.
I ran across a post on my Facebook feed in one of my writing groups recently that’s helped me to put some things into perspective. Someone posted that they had finally finished their NaNo project and was very happy about that, of course. They said that their draft came in at over 185,000 words, but they would be editing that down significantly. It was good to see that I’m not the only person who’s draft has gotten really big, and that made me feel less worried about my own word count.
Other than that, there’s not really all that much to report. Because of the weekend away, I haven’t managed to be as productive as I’d like to be.
So, here’s the Check-In Goals breakdown…
Goal #1 – Finish my First Draft
I’ve written another 2000 words since the last check-in, trying to keep up with my 1000 words per day goal, but with the time away, I did end up skipping a few days.
Since this Round began, I’ve written about 36,500 words, and the draft is now just over 128,000 words in total.
Goal #2 – Write At Least Three Articles/Essays
Still haven’t gotten around to this one yet, because I’m saving this one for when I’m done the first draft and want to take a break from it. Though I am considering taking some time off from the first draft to work on at least one small writing project, just for a change of pace.
Goal #3 – Start Editing
I still haven’t started on this one, either. I won’t edit until the draft is done. I’m a horrible self-editor, so I’m really trying to not go back and edit while I write. I’m saving all of the editing for when the draft is done.
Goal #4 – Read at least Two Books
I’m about halfway through Anthony Horowitz‘s The House of Silk, a Sherlock Holmes story, and I’m really enjoying it, though it is turning out to be a very dark story.
Well, there’s my update for the week. I’m still plugging away at it, knowing that someday, I’ll finish this thing 😉
Hope all is well with you.
