The NaNo website offers a lot of resources to help you get ready for November, things like inspirational pep talks and writing prompts and such. It also has a series of challenges you can participate in, kind of like practice runs, to help build you up to the 1667/day word count goal.
I signed up for one such exercise – a 7 day/ 7000 word challenge… I have to write at least 1000 words every day for the next week.
Today was the first day of the challenge, and my daily word count is 1198 words for the day, so yay me
Just to make things a bit clear, everything I’ve been writing up until now, and continuing until Nov. 1, is all preparation and outline. None of this counts towards my actual NaNoWriMo attempt. On November 1st, I start from zero.
What I’m currently working on is a (way too detailed) plot outline for the story, character bios, and since it’s a sci-fi story, descriptions of locations (planets, starships, etc) and technologies (faster-than-light travel, interstellar communication) that will be integral to the plot.
Much of this stuff won’t be used in the actual novel, but it will help me build the world and the characters in it.
Daily Challenge Word Count – 1198 (Day #1)
Novel Word Count – 0 (Start Date Nov. 1)
Outline/Prep. Word Count – 6747
