The Decision – September 21, 2018

So, after many years of hemming and hawing about it, I’ve finally decided to take the plunge and participate in NaNoWriMo this year.

That’s today… tomorrow I may decide to abandon the whole idea

For those not familiar, National Novel Writing Month (often shortened to NaNoWriMo), is an annual, Internet-based creative writing project that takes place during the month of November. Participants attempt to write a 50,000 word manuscript between November 1 and November 30.

Many of you know that I’ve always been a bit of a frustrated, wanna-be author, and though I do have a few small articles and stories that have been “published” over the years, I’ve never been able to power through and finish a novel-sized work, though I have a closet and a jump-drive overflowing with unfinished and abandoned attempts.

So, for the upcoming month of November, I’m going to do my best to churn out an average of 1667 words per day, every day, to see if by the 30th I can have a completed first draft of a new novel… hopefully.

I’ve been working on an outline for this project, and I would really like it to come together as I hope… it’s a fun story idea, at least to me.

Like I said, I may still abandon the attempt.

What do I need from you? Encouragement, patience, and understanding. And a promise not to give me any shit if this attempt doesn’t pan out.

If I do go through with this, I may post updates throughout the month of November, so you can track how I’m doing.

If you’d like more information about NaNoWriMo, you can visit their web-page at nanowrimo.org. If you decide to sign up yourself, please let me know and I’ll give you a link to my profile there, so we can support and encourage each other.

Wish me luck
